Hieronymus Bosch.

Hieronymus Bosch was Dutch painter, in the 15th and 16th Century. Now his paintings and the meaning of his paintings are quite peculiar- that's why I decided to do this post of him. I first came across him a National Geographic magazine and I had to take a closer look at him. You'll notice that in his paintings there is a lot going on and they are no doubt very imaginative.

This particular piece, which is one of his most popular paintings is called 'Garden of Earthly Delights'- this is actually not the whole painting but the central piece!  I don't even know where to look first at this painting. It would take a while to see all the detail of this painting.

This is called 'Hell'- it kind of looks like something out of a Lord of the Ring movie, or a Harry Potter movie!

'Last Judgement'- I think it has become clear that some of his paintings did have a religious slant. You can easily guess that these paintings were done a very long time ago, before artists started using perspective.

'Marriage Feast at Cana'

'Noah's Ark on Mount Ararat'

'Saint Cristopher Carrying the Christ Child through a Sinful World'

'St.Gerome in Prayer.'

Ok, so I think these paintings are an aquired taste. I don't think everyone will like them, maybe because of their religious theme or maybe because of the dark hue that is in many of his paintings, I don't know. But I think I kind of like them! What do you think?
